Makeup and Beauty for Everyday Women by Ilse Mercedes.
I'm Ilse (it's German google it), Mercedes is my (real) middle name. It's kinda hood, but I love it. Yoja is Korean for "girl."
I'm brown, and from WA. I have a degree in English & am pursuing a masters in Education. I have been living in Korea for the past 4 years, and I enjoy it very much.
I also love makeup and it's always been a passion of mine. Here you will find makeup/ beauty tips and photos that I found on the internet and from my personal life. I like to help women look better. Looking better=feeling good = confidence=life success, ya dig?
"Ilse is a wonderful woman a caring soul and an amazing artist! I have been a service member for twenty years and never really felt like a woman in uniform until she have me a make-over. She was able to inspire and share her craft with me and many of my friends. It’s truly a beautiful experience to see a room full of women transform into glamorous ladies right before your eyes. She gave me tips and showed me how to go from drab to fab with ease and confidence. She has the ability to show you how to bring out your inner beauty everyday with small adjustments. I use the things I learned from Isle everyday. I’m blessed to have her as my beautification coach, my style inspiration and friend. Her gift must be shared with others!" –Kimberly Barr
"I first met Ilse when I went to Seoul for a co-workers bachelorette party. I was extremely hesitant to let someone "doll" me up but I was forced into it by my friends. During the process of having Ilse do my makeup she made me feel so relaxed and just took the time to get to know me, it felt like we were just having a conversation and I forgot that she was applying make-up on my face. I was extremely happy with the outcome. It made me feel like I was another person all together. That night when I went out so many people were giving me compliments! After posting my picture online to my friends back home, they were also extremely surprised as my everyday makeup is very natural and unnoticeable. Because of Ilse, I now want to learn different techniques to highlight the features on my face- because when you look good you really do feel good. Thanks so much for that feeling Ilse.” –Janet Russel (right)
"I hired Ilse to give makeovers for my close friend’s bridal shower/bachelorette party. Now I must say, I am not one for makeup. My daily routine involves a light facial scrub, a palm of lotion, and some Vaseline on my lips, lip gloss if I’m feeling fancy. I was thoroughly impressed with and surprised by my makeover however. I found myself staring in the mirror batting my eyes in disbelief that makeup could look like that on me. I felt like another person.Ilse did makeovers for a variety of skin tones and facial structures and everyone was fabulous. We loved the time spent with her as she brought our alter egos to life. She was full of life, love, energy, and positivity. And it helped that she brought a little bubbly for the party . She made everyone feel beautiful, not just after the makeover, but before as she complimented us on our natural features.Later when my friend (one of the party attendees) and I were preparing to go out, we both found ourselves saying “We need Ilse!”- Brittany Smotherson (left)
Met up in Busan, South Korea & treated my girl Laura with a bridal consultation! To suit her personal style, Laura wanted to learn how to create a “natural” glow for her big day to be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We chose golden hues to highlight her eyes & cheekbones, an elegant, yet simple enough look for her to do it herself Congrats Laura!!!
Today I went into a tattoo shop. My friend mentioned to the artist that he looked familiar, and he said “yes, I remember you too… I used to work at (some restaurant*). She asked him if he missed working there & being a chef. His response: “No, (and basically like are you you kidding me?!) I’m an artist!”
So inspired. As I prepare to make a “career switch,” as scary as it is, I must remember what brought me to this conclusion in the first place.
Do what you LOVE & design the life you want.
What is GlamROK? A term we made up which basically means come on over to the designated location, relax, sip wine, meet other ladies in the area, have a full-faced makeover, be pampered, and have your photos done. It’s magical, really. Such a pleasure to work with Daegu Photographer, Antwon Maxwell, a true artist behind the lens.
A primer preps skin before foundation, helping it apply smoother and last longer throughout the day. It can even fill in fine lines and open pores (usually the heavier formulas). Choosing a primer really has to do with your skin type and needs. I’ve recently started using this water-based, oil-free #makeupforever #primer. It’s super lightweight, and adds a natural looking luminosity to the face. This is the “clear” formula, for any skin tone, but there are other color-correcting tones to choose from as well. Use a dime sized amount after daily moisturizer and before foundation. #Shinsegae #makeupforever counter ₩50,000
Washing makeup brushes is essential! Women often report that makeup is causing them to break out, when in fact, it’s the build up of bacteria on never before washed brushes & sponges (yuck!). Cleaning tools regularly also helps makeup apply smoother and more luxuriously. I usually wash my brushes about every three days or so using a mild/ gentle soap (baby soap) or a brush cleaner + warm water. Swirl brushes around the palm of hand until product is rinsed out and squeeze any excess water out of brushes. Lay flat to dry on paper towels or clean cloth overnight.
Red lipstick, worn as an accessory, is a bold statement. Be brave. #classic #redlipstick #diva by #mac

One of my favorite #korean beauty products, this double-sided eyebrow brush in “brown” by #thefaceshop. I use it to outline, then fill in my brows for perfection! Only ₩2,000
Another one of my favorite #korean beauty products, this black sugar “mask” by #skinfood, a popular beauty shop found in pretty much every shopping area here. Really it’s an #exfoliant for the face, so it should only be used a few times/ week on clean skin (not a cleanser!) I love it because it literally polishes skin, leaving it clean & clear…and it smells good enough to eat! ₩7,000 #skinfood #exfoliator
